Have you ever seen something like the image above? Have you then gone on to drink the juice or smoothie that was supposed to “melt” your pounds away, and after doing so found that you weren’t losing any weight? Don’t worry, you’re not alone!
Nothing you put into your body is going to magically “melt” the pounds away instantly. It just doesn’t work this way! The only thing that will come close is doing a complete juice cleanse where all you’re taking into your body is juice all day. I’ve lost 27 pounds in one month by doing a juice cleanse, but I’ll talk more about that later. First, I really wanted to focus in on some of the bogus claims made about juicing and losing weight.
But I Drank The Juice, Why Am I Not Losing Weight?
Drinking one juice or smoothie isn’t going to suddenly turn your body into a fat burning inferno! I know we all wish it was this easy! I know I wished it was so for all of the years I’ve struggled with my weight; however, the truth is that the people who make these claims are usually either uneducated on the realities of weight loss, or they’re trying to sell you something. There are healthy ways to lose weight with juicing, but your not going to just drink a couple of juices and suddenly have your pants falling off of you because they’re too big!
I Thought Juices Contained Properties That Are Good For Weight Loss?
They do! There are actually many different vegetable and fruit juices that contain powerful properties for boosting your weight loss, but they aren’t going to immediately zap it off like it’s melted butter or something. That’s not how it works.
What they can and will do is speed up your metabolism so you’re burning more fat over the course of a day, clean up your body so it’s internal systems burn fat off more efficiently, and also aid your digestion so you’re absorbing what your’re eating better (which also leads to more healthy weight loss). There are most definitely ways to lose weight with juicing, but it’s going to take more of a consistent effort than just drinking a juice or two.
Green juices and also specific vegetables, fruits, spices, and herbs such as cayenne pepper, regular chili peppers, celery, cinnamon, cucumber, ginger, grapefruit, lemon, and turmeric contain some of the weight loss properties I just mentioned. Adding these as ingredients in your juices will kick up your weight loss. Lucky for you we’ve already put together a bunch of weight loss juice recipes that include many of these ingredients!
You Will Also Need To Add In Some Exercise
You’re not going to watch the pounds just “drop off” if you aren’t getting any exercise. You are going to have to work at it. Adding the kinds of juices I just talked about will most definitely increase the amount of weight you can lose, but you will also need to be adding exercise into your routine. Losing weight and burning fat has everything to do with how many calories you take in during the day, and how many calories you’re burning. Fat comes off as you burn more calories than you take in during a day. It’s a process, and one that usually takes some time, but if you work at it on a consistent basis you’ll see awesome results!
The only way you can really get away with just doing some light cardio for a period of time, and still be losing a lot of weight is by doing a juice cleanse.
The Beauty Of Doing A Juice Cleanse
When doing a juice cleanse you’ll want to add in some light cardio such as walking, hiking, swimming, or yoga but you really don’t want to over-exert yourself. Some people will maintain an exercise program during a juice cleanse, but generally speaking you want to give your body a break so that it can restore and rejuvenate. Liisa (Yes with two i’s) and myself who both work on this website and blog have lost lots of weight through juice cleansing. In fact we did a 30 day juice cleanse a few years back where we blogged almost daily our progress. We each lost around 27 pounds during that juice cleanse. I’ve linked to this in other articles I’ve written, but for those who haven’t seen it here is a link to that juice cleanse we did.
We’ve both done other juice cleanses as well where we lost a lot of weight, and in fact Liisa wrote an article about another juice cleanse she did many years before the one I just mentioned. She lost a whole lot of weight during that one!
Juice cleanses work on a whole different level than your average kind of weight loss! They are to be done for a period of time so that you can really shed some pounds as well as clean out your body. Some of the undigested foods and stuff inside of our body can be exactly what is getting in the way of our weight loss. Optimizing, regenerating, restoring, and speeding up your digestive system really helps it to perform in the way that it is meant to.
What Do I Do After A Juice Cleanse or If I Don’t Want To Juice Cleanse?
If you really don’t want to do a juice cleanse, or have done a juice cleanse and want to maintain or keep losing more weight then you need to maintain a decent exercise routine and eat healthy. It would be good to include some of the ingredients I mentioned earlier into your juices, smoothies, or other foods that you’re eating. Also adding raw living foods into your diet will continue to optimize and clean out your body. Raw living foods include vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, seeds, and some spices. Generally speaking these foods are not heated above 118 degrees, which keeps a lot of the important nutrients intact. These nutrients are vital for your health, and will also contribute to even greater levels of weight loss!
Wrapping It Up
I really hope this helped to clear up some of the mis-information out there about juicing and weight loss! It has been and will continue to be my goal to shed light on the truth about these kinds of subjects. I have personally struggled with my weight for a lot of my life, and I have learned over the years through this struggle what work and what doesn’t. I’ve learned the hard way that quick fixes such as pills, or other chemicals not only don’t really work but can cause long term damage. Eating, drinking clean, and maintaining a good exercise routine is truly the healthiest and most optimal way to lose that weight and keep it off!
Juicing for me has been and will continue to be a big part of my weight management routine! By knowing the right ingredients to add to my juices, and also by knowing how to juice cleanse the right way I have been able to lose a lot of weight over the years. I plan on continuing to stay on track, and I hope the information in this article and on our website and blog will help you to do the same!
