Another day, another juice! Today is day 22 of this juicing challenge and we’re going to be going over a few of the health benefits of Cruciferous vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables include Cabbage, Cauliflower, Bok Choy, Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Kale, Collard Greens, Turnip, Arugula, Watercress, Radish, and more.
The juice recipe for today, which you’ll find on the bottom of the page after this information includes two cruciferous vegetables in it. Before we get to that let’s discover some of the nutritional power inside of cruciferous vegetables!
Cruciferous vegetables contain powerful anti-cancer compounds called Glucosinolates:
On top of all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients inside of cruciferous vegetables we also find Glucosinolates. In the body these are transformed into specific beneficial chemical groups and molecules such as indole-3-carbinol, diindolylmethane, sulforaphane, and more. Each of these have individual health
benefits and also specific anti-cancer benefits.
Cruciferous vegetables have been noted to improve survival in women with breast cancer.
Most cruciferous vegetables are high in vitamin K:
Vitamin K has the unique ability to activate needed proteins which are involved in opposing many of the leading causes of death. These causes include atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cancer.
Women who experience heavy menstrual bleeding may find some relief as vitamin K not only reduces the outflow of blood, but can also reduce menstrual pain.
Vitamin K helps bones to remain strong, and specifically can prevent bone loss.
Cruciferous vegetables contain isothiocynates, which decrease the secretion of inflammatory molecules. This could be good news for those who suffer from arthritis, and could be helpful even for someone who has a common headache.
