Health Benefits Of Celery Juice

The health benefits of celery juice are many and are oftenHealth_Benefits_Of_Celery_Juice mistakenly glossed over when it comes to considering healthy vegetables and fruits. I always get a kick out of it when I hear someone say that celery is nothing but a bunch of water.

As you will clearly see laid out on this page celery is much more than this. The amazing health benefits of celery juice extend into many areas of nutrition and make this vegetable an extremely important part of a healthy diet!

To begin celery juice makes a great post workout recovery drink. Inside of it are high levels of potassium and organic sodium. This along with the other minerals in celery juice help to replace lost electrolytes, aid in the hydration of your body, and replenishes your body with minerals as it is a rich source of them.

The sodium available in celery juice is an organic sodium. This essential to the body salt helps maintain a healthy balance and is a big part of what a body needs after a good workout. Celery contains quite a bit of water in it which also makes for a good amount of juice per celery stalk.

Celery is also known to contain at least eight different types of anti-cancer compounds. Among these are coumarins which have been shown to prevent free radicals from damaging cells, have anti-coagulant effects, enhance the activity of certain white blood cells that help to fight cancer, and help to prevent cancers of the skin, tongue, esophagus, liver, and colon.

Celery also contains acetylenics which have been shown to stop the growth of tumor cells. Others such as Phenolic acids block the action of prostaglandins that encourage the growth of tumor cells.

The health benefits of celery juice also include help to reduce blood pressure. Phthalides a group of active compounds found in celery juice help to reduce blood pressure by relaxing the muscles in and around the walls of the arteries.

This causes the vessels to dilate which creates more space for the blood to flow at a lower level of pressure. Phthalides also lower levels of stress hormones, which in turn can have a positive effect on your blood pressure as well as many other areas of health.

Apigenin, Coumarins and Potassium also play a role in helping to reduce lower blood pressure. Apigenin in celery is known to lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels. In studies it has been shown to have a relaxing effect minus any feeling of sedation.

Coumarins which have many other health benefits also can help to lower blood pressure by reducing stress levels and toning the vascular system. Potassium is an essential mineral for regulating your blood system and celery has approximately 310 mg of this mineral per cup.

Celery juice has been shown in laboratory studies to  reduce LDL (Bad) cholesterol. Butyl phthalide, which is one of the components that gives celery its distinctive smell has a hand in this as well as other components yet to be completely discovered. Celery juice also helps to remove cholesterol from the body, as it aids in increasing bile acid secretion.

Celery juice is a good source of Polyacetylene as well as Luteolin. Polyacetylene an organic polymer found in celery juice is said to reduce prostoglandins which are chemicals that produce inflammation. This can help to ease rheumatic and arthritic pain as well as many other inflammatory problems in the body.

Luteolin has shown to be a strong inhibitor of inflammation in numerous studies. It has been shown to block specific enzymes which activate the formation of gene products responsible for producing inflammation.

The Luteolin in celery juice has also been shown in studies to be helpful in combating dementia. The reason for this is that it helps to reduce inflammation in the brain. These studies have suggested that eating celery or drinking celery juice can be a preventative measure and possibly a treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

Celery juice has a calming effect on the nervous system. This combined with the levels of magnesium found in celery juice could make it helpful to those who have trouble sleeping. Celery has been known to be used as a treatment or as an aid for those who suffer with insomnia.

These benefits are said to have a cumulative effect rather than an instant one. Meaning that the benefits of celery juice for insomnia would be seen by taking in celery juice on a daily basis over a period of time.

Looking to spice up your sex life? Celery juice has been touted as a natural aphrodisiac! Not only does celery juice help to dilate blood vessels which creates a better flow of blood in our bodies and also to our extremities. It also contains a good variety of the  many vitamins and minerals that are optimal for a healthy sex drive.

Celery juice also contains two steroids called androsterone and adrostenol. Research has shown that when consumed these release a subtle aroma that not only increases arousal in the consumer, but may also attract the opposite sex. So next time you are looking to rev up your love life consider a glass of celery juice!

Last, but not least celery juice has an overall alkalizing effect on your body. Many nutritionists and studies recommend a diet that helps maintain a slight alkaline balance in our bodies. The combination of minerals which includes the organic type of sodium found in celery juice makes this vegetable a great addition to an alkaline diet.

Little Edit for you guys: All sodium is soluble. Celery is great for weight loss as it has low sugar, fat, and carbohydrates. I use it!

Hello Aaron and thanks for noticing the wording there! I guess when we wrote the article we were repeating that it was soluble and also an organic sodium. We omitted the soluble now since it is redundant. We love celery also, and eat it raw as well as juice it all of the time!
